About this app

See the customer's Recurly subscriptions on the ticket, and fix billing without leaving Zendesk. When someone writes in about a declined card, a renewal or a cancellation, Tenurewell shows their Recurly account next to the ticket: subscriptions with plan and add-ons, past-due invoices and dunning, recent payments and refunds, and their credit. Agents you allow can refund, cancel or reactivate, pause or resume, move a renewal date, apply a coupon, add a credit or collect a past-due invoice, and every action is written to the ticket as an internal note.

Tenurewell is built by Great Work LLC. It is not made or endorsed by Zendesk or Recurly. Recurly is a trademark of Recurly, Inc.

The whole subscription in the sidebar

  • Matched automatically by every email address on the requester's Zendesk profile, and optionally by a Zendesk user field or the external id that holds the Recurly account code.
  • Subscriptions with plan, add-ons, quantity, price and interval, coupons, status and the next renewal, trial end, scheduled pause, cancellation date or pending plan change.
  • Problems first: past-due invoices with the amount owed, how many dunning emails went out, the last declined attempt and why, and an expired, expiring or invalid card.
  • Invoices and transactions, with refundable amounts and links into Recurly. Account credit and charges waiting for the next invoice at a glance.
  • Works with Recurly's US and EU data centers, and up to three Recurly sites mapped to your Zendesk brands.

Actions with guard rails

  • Refund an invoice by amount or by line item, to the original payment method or as account credit, with a reason your team picks.
  • Cancel at the end of the term and reactivate before it ends. Pause for a number of billing periods and resume, or remove a scheduled pause.
  • Move the renewal date to align billing or give a few free days, with the shift in days spelled out first.
  • Apply a coupon by its code, and add a credit to the account for the next invoice.
  • Collect a past-due invoice now once the customer has updated their card.
  • Every action shows a confirmation that says exactly what will happen before anything is sent, and each request carries an idempotency key, so a double click or a retry never refunds twice.

  • You decide who may act: admins only by default, or agents, custom roles or groups you list. Each action type can be switched off, refunds and credits above limits you set need an admin, and you can limit which coupons agents may apply.

Logged on the ticket and in Recurly, every time

  • After Recurly accepts an action, Tenurewell adds an internal note with the amounts, the Recurly invoice and transaction numbers, the reason, the agent and their note, plus a tag (tenurewell_refund, tenurewell_pause and so on) you can use in views and reports.
  • It also adds a note on the Recurly account naming the Zendesk ticket and the agent, so finance can trace every change back (you can turn this off).

Plan (billed monthly by Zendesk)

Standard: $10 per agent per month. Every feature is included. 14-day trial; Zendesk asks for a card at install and billing starts when the trial ends unless you uninstall.

Your data

Your Recurly API key is stored as a Zendesk secure setting. It never reaches the agent's browser: Zendesk adds it to each request on the way to Recurly, and only to Recurly's own API hosts. Tenurewell has no Great Work server, keeps no copy of your Recurly or Zendesk data, imports no billing history anywhere, has no export, sends nothing to Great Work or anyone else (not even usage statistics), does no background work and uses no AI.

How to install

  1. In Recurly, go to Integrations > API Credentials and add a private API key named "Tenurewell for Zendesk". Each Recurly site has its own keys, so use the key of the site your agents support (a sandbox site's key for testing).

  2. Install Tenurewell from the Zendesk Marketplace and choose the Standard plan. The 14-day trial starts now; Zendesk asks for a card and starts billing when the trial ends unless you uninstall.

  3. Enter the Recurly subdomain: only the part before .recurly.com in your Recurly address (for example acme). Paste the key into Recurly private API key. Zendesk stores the key as a secure setting; agents never see it, and Zendesk only sends it to Recurly's API. If your site is in Recurly's EU data center, turn on EU data center.
  4. Optional: add a second or third site with its own subdomain, key and EU switch, and list the Zendesk brand ids that should open each site.

  5. Choose Who may take actions: admin (the default), agent for everyone, custom role ids, or group:<id> for groups, separated by commas. Switch each action type on or off, set the Largest refund without an admin and Largest credit without an admin (0 means no limit), and optionally list the Coupons agents may apply and your own Refund reasons.
  6. Optional matching: the key of a Zendesk user field that holds the Recurly account code, or turn on Zendesk external id is the Recurly account code. Matching by email always runs.
  7. Open a ticket. Tenurewell shows the requester's Recurly account in the sidebar. Actions write an internal note on the ticket and, unless you turn it off, a note on the Recurly account.

Tenurewell creates nothing in your Zendesk account at install. It adds internal notes and tenurewell_* tags to tickets only when an agent takes an action; they stay if you uninstall. Uninstalling deletes the stored keys; also revoke the API key in Recurly.
